A caddie book is the hole-by-hole guide players carry round a course they do not know — the map of every hole, where the OB is, what the mando means and where the drop zone sits. What goes in a good caddie book
Tournament directors hand out caddie books so that nobody loses a stroke to a rule they could not have known about. A useful one has:
- A course overview, so players can see how the holes connect and where each next tee is.
- A page per hole with an accurate map: tee, basket, the flight line, trees and paths.
- Par and distance for the layout being played — or every layout, for a book that serves the whole field.
- OB, mandos, drop zones and hazards, drawn where they are and explained in words.
- Event information that is not about any single hole: the schedule, local rules, parking, sponsors.
What DiscMap puts in it
The book opens with a cover and the whole course on one map. You can add your own free-form pages — written in an editor with headings, images and tables — for local rules, a schedule or a sponsor spread. Then comes one page per hole with its map, its par and measured distance for every layout, and the hole description you wrote, in full.
It exports as a PDF for print, and the same content is on the course's public page, laid out for a phone — reachable from the QR code on each tee sign.
Writing hole notes players can use
The map shows where things are; the note should say what to do about them. Name the line ("hyzer around the big oak, the gap opens after 40 m"), say what is OB and what is not, say where the drop zone is and when it applies, and warn about anything the map cannot show — a blind basket, a road, a path people walk on. Two or three sentences per hole is plenty.
Keeping it up to date
Because the book is generated from the map, a moved basket or a new tournament layout changes the book and the signs together. Edit the course, re-export the PDF, and the phone version updates on its own.
